Evolution of the Chair
The word ‘chair’ was derived from the Latin word ‘cathedra’ meaning ‘sit’ and ‘down.’
Conventionally, chairs were used by the superior members of society like kings and nobles. A statement of power and status.
The oldest chairs were used by the Egyptians, almost 5000 years ago. While rich people sat on chairs, poor ones used benches and stools. They came to define your class and place in society.
